I recently did a blog post of the behind the scenes photo shoot for W by Walla look book. I loved the collection, the detailing and more important that it was designed by a Bahraini designer! The images below are my picks from this collecton. The lookbook was photographed by award winning Bahraini photographer Ali Sharaf who is amazing at what he does. I got the chance to interview Walla, who is a busy mum and a designer to find out more about inspirations, love for her country and a lot more.
You have elements of Bahrain in your designs; why was it important to you to add that touch?
I consider myself a very traditional person and I am really in love with my culture.
I feel Bahrain has strong inspiration to give to a fashion designer as for heritage, colors, scenery, historical sites…
You just previewed your collection at Milan fashion week.. How exciting was it to showcase this collection there?
Very exciting and I feel proud of it; being presented in one of the international capitals of fashion it’s a dream for any designer!
Moreover at the moment my SS14 collection is showcased in a temporary showroom in Paris during the Fashion Week.
What advice would you give an up and coming designer who is struggling in Bahrain?
Never give up!! Nothing comes easy but if you believe in yourself, you’ll definitely reach your goal!
You’re a mum, wife and designer, what’s your secret of balancing it all?
YES, I have to say it’s not that simple but I try my best to give everything its due importance.
Who are your top 3 designers that inspire you and why?
I don’t have a particular designer who I look up to; my inspiration keeps on changing every season. It really depends on the concept of the collection.
I also don’t like to focus on one or two top designers so my inspiration becomes with no limit!
Who would you love to see wearing one of your designs?
If you could visit any era, which would it be?
The 60’s for sure!
